Remarkable RIB Record in Southern France 2002 Lomac Evinrude

RIB Record

This RIB record video documents the journey of a team attempting to break the record for the fastest crossing of Gulf of Biscay (Golfe de Gascogne in French).

The team of 6 departed in their Lomac on 24th of August 2002 at 07:00 from Hendaye in southwestern France and travel to Benodet in northwestern France, a distance of 287 nautical miles. They arrived at 17:00.

The team includes skipper Romain Attanasio, who is an experienced sailor and has an impressive palmares.

The crew faced a number of challenges on their journey, including rough seas, strong winds, and technical issues with their boat.

Despite these difficulties, the team was able to break the previous record for the crossing, completing the journey in just 10:00:39 with a cruising speed of 30 knots.

The reported consumption of 940 litres to cover the nearly 300 miles in 10 hours demonstrates the economy of these modern engines (twin Evinrude-Bombardier 250 hp) and the performance of the development engineers in saving energy.

The video also highlights several key features, including the deep-V hull, which provides stability and smooth handling, and the state-of-the-art navigation system, which includes GPS and a touch-screen display.

What drew my attention of this Offshore Racing RIB Invictus is the adjustable shock mitigation cabin system.

You see the RIB in action, slicing through the water at high speeds and navigating sharp turns with ease.
