Rescue Swimming
Volunteers from the RNLI New Brighton Lifeboat Station in Merseyside responded to a Coastguard request after receiving reports of two people stranded at the end of a groyne, isolated by the rising tide.
With swells reaching up to 1.5 meters and waves crashing onto the groin where the casualties were stuck, it became impossible for the lifeboat to manoeuvre close to them.
This situation left the crew with only one viable option – a team member would have to swim to the groyne to assist them.
The challenging conditions, coupled with the urgency of the situation, added intensity to the rescue swimming mission.
