Skippers Exhibiting Unsafe Boating Behavior
To those who know me, it is clear that I am not posting this video out of disaster tourism or clickbait.
On the contrary, my intention is to emphasize that operating a vessel requires a responsible skipper.
This ensures the safety of all onboard.
This video unequivocally also illustrates why the passengers endured a very bad day.
Being a skipper on a Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) and other vessels is more than just steering and speed.
The skipper is fully responsible for all safety on board, navigation, weather awareness, communication, and emergency procedures.
While boating but also during boarding.
They must ensure that the crew and passengers are briefed, the equipment is functioning, and that all regulations are followed.
Performing a recreational trip, the skipper’s judgment and leadership are critical. That makes boating a true pleasure.
Want to see what that looks like in action?
Discover the full range of skipper (lacking) responsibilities in this compelling video – judge for yourself!
One skipper’s reckless driving nearly throws a passenger overboard [00:32], causing the passenger to express anger [00:53]. And the skipper? He just keeps on going even smiling…
Another skipper’s driving results in a passenger in the bow violently hitting his back [01:21].
This impact potentially causes a spine injury. Even the captain struggles to maintain balance [01::42]. And still he just keeps on going…
Additionally, a skipper allows young children to ride in the bow without life jackets.
They also hold a baby mid-ride, which is a serious safety violation [02:05] … and so on…
Because of its importance I’ve published a lot of posts on safety: Stay informed, stay safe.
