The Promising Puma Racing Team

Our Belgian Puma Racing Team invites you on Saturday, May 28th from 15:00 to their team day.

It will be a fantastic day, knowing team owner en manager Xavier Derille.

The ambitious team races internationally and has won the European Championship in 2021, a super achievement.

It is there that skills evolve and the powerboats and engines are put to the test.

Real offshore racing is a feast for the eyes and ears, I must admit.

International racing places high demands on the drivers, the hardware and the management.

You need a fair amount of budget as well.

And it must be said, the pilots can rely on great sponsors and a powerful fan base.

Above all, it requires many hours of training, a high degree of technical skills and sacrifices. Few people are aware of this.

Xavier and co-pilot Jeroen Haverbeke have that indispensable determination.

No doubt this team day will be awesome and their impressive RIB is on display as well. RIBs ONLY will be there as well.

The location is: Kouter 250, 9800 Deinze, Belgium.

Puma Racing Team – Near Crash

Near Crash

I got the chance to interview Xavier Derille. He is the Team Owner and Manager of the Puma Racing Team.

We talked about the race in Benalmadena, Spain. This race was under the auspices of the UIM.

That tells me that this is the real stuff.

By the way, this video was published on the RIBs ONLY YouTube channel.

What happened?

As you have seen, the weather conditions were not the best. At the start of heat 2 they had a very good position.

The team experienced excessive nose-lift during training. They decided to add 25 kg to the very front of the nose.

In order to offer them the indispensable view during the take-off procedure, they also had the flaps set.

During the race, they both noticed an approaching wave just too late (00:21).

In a split second, they were almost perpendicular to the water.

The flaps hit the next wave and the bow flipped down.

2023 – Closing a Chapter

News Update from the Puma Racing Team by Xavier.

This time with a mix of emotions. Happiness, pride, and sadness, we are truly spoiled!

Our wonderful group keeps growing. Don’t ask me how we do it. We just do it! Together! Thank you sponsors and supporters, it feels amazing.

Sometimes we face headwinds but also a lot of tailwinds.

This time, our sponsor Tom granted us the opportunity to set sail very soon with a Bernico FTX 27, equipped with a Mercury 300R. In return, we promised to turn it into a gem.

Sadly, at the end of the season, we will have to say goodbye to our Topline Pegasus 27, which spent only one season in our warehouse.

Jeroen, myself, and the numerous team members and volunteers took good care of her, and she performed exceptionally well.

In Benalmadena, we finished 4th, only 2 seconds behind the 3rd place and 4 seconds behind the 2nd place, with a mere 12-second difference from the winner.

Yet, her fate was sealed. We had no other choice. Opportunities like this don’t come often. Thank you, Tom.

The Puma Topline will give its all, striving for a chance to compete in the final battle for the UIM Pleasure Navigation Endurance Group B World Championship in Como, Italy, in October.

Blankenberge, where she could unleash herself during training from February until last week in her element.

2, 4, 5 bft, bring it on. No matter how the racing season ends, we will miss her in 2024, and it will feel strange if she ever leaves here.

But we, the Puma Racing Team, will fight to give this boat the farewell it deserves.

I know… Cristiano… you’ll be shocked when you read this. Sorry, my friend.

I will never forget your words: “treat my baby very well,” “what you realized in 3 months… I worked 2 years on it.”

Onwards to a new era.

Fighting with a boat we have dreamt of for several years.

A big thank you also to the Bernico team, who appreciate our dedication over the past 5 years. We’re proud to sense your eagerness to join us on the battlefield.

We now know and understand that you (Bernico) have everything perfectly organized and that you just get it done!

Passion, drive, no (time) limits, good weather or bad weather (hey Dave), data analysis, etc… We are thrilled to be part of it.

Let’s battle together.

Thanks to everyone who believes in us, the Puma Racing Team.
