RNLI Means Royal National Lifeboat Institution

In 2024, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution celebrates its remarkable 200th anniversary.

This milestone will be commemorated with a thanksgiving service at Westminster Abbey in London, scheduled for March.

The core consists of volunteers, constituting the majority of our dedicated individuals.

Since its establishment in 1824, it has been a beacon of lifesaving service, having rescued a minimum of 144,000 lives.

Throughout the centuries, this honorable undertaking has undergone a transformative evolution, progressing from the wooden, oar-propelled boats of bygone eras to the contemporary, motor-powered, all-weather vessels employed in the present day.

User Experience (UX) Has Always Been Key

And I’m not referring only to websites. It’s all around us in everything that invades our lives and triggers us.

While I’m not an expert in User Experience Design, incorporating this feature could enhance your overall positive experience here.

Consider organising the information by utilising categories beneath the texts, where clicking on a specific category provides a wealth of additional information on the corresponding subject.

So, no longer surf away from a blog post or a page (we have some ) because it’s in English or copy paste texts in Google Translate because that can be quite a hassle.

Just click on the new pictogram and in an instance the post or page you’re on is translated into your own language.

It has become that simple now.

However, not every translation is accurate; some contain errors, yet offer a better chance to interpret the content.

Below is a well-known drawing that illustrates the phenomenon of “lost in translation.”

Could a Hydrogen Outboard Be a Solution

Apart form diesel and battery driven outboards (see my article on that subject), hydrogen powered ones are also on the table.

This prototype of a hydrogen outboard has been meticulously developed for the sole purpose of advancing research initiatives. Here’s the official press release below.

IWATA, December 7, 2023 – Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. (Tokyo: 7272) is pleased to announce that it will be exhibiting a prototype hydrogen-powered outboard motor at the Miami International Boat Show, one of the world’s largest boat shows, scheduled to be held from February 14 to 18, 2024 in Miami, Florida, USA.

Marine products run through water and are thus subjected to water resistance, requiring significantly more energy for propulsion than land vehicles.

Additionally, the performance and engineering requirements for marine products can vary widely depending on the usage environment—such as the ocean, rivers, or lakes—as well as the usage itself, from commercial fishing to recreation.

In order to achieve carbon neutrality with marine products while facing such challenges, the Company is promoting a multi-directional development approach, looking to other new energy sources and technologies in addition to its electrification efforts.

Yamaha Motor has set a companywide environmental goal to achieve carbon neutrality in Scope 3* emissions by 2050.

To create a more sustainable world, the Company will continue promoting the research and development of technologies that contribute to sustainability.

*Emissions produced from the Company’s value chain, e.g., use of sold products
