Fraser came to RIBs in his 40s after spending his youth messing around with yachts.
After a long break from the sea, he and his wife and co-skipper, Erika, bought their first RIB in 2017. They have been hooked ever since.
They now run a custom XS750 with a 300 hp Mercury V8 outboard. It features what Fraser modestly calls “the best RIB nav kit on the West of Scotland.” The setup includes twin Simrad NSS4 plotters and radar.
The couple regularly enjoy long adventures around Scotland’s west coast. They also travel as far as Ireland and the South of England.
Fraser has a passion for Scotland’s maritime history, small-group exploration, and photography.
Both he and Erika have earned many qualifications. They regularly apply those learnings in their risk management roles at a major bank.
He can also be found aboard the 1972 Nelson 42, “Bold Ranger.” Restoring the boat has become a true labour of love.
One notable achievement was the first tagging of a basking shark with a video camera.
Fraser’s defining characteristic is that he doesn’t believe in a boating “season.” You’ll find them at sea and on various Facebook forums throughout the year.
