I dedicated <a href=\"https:\/\/ribsonly.com\/2\/category\/safety\/\">many articles<\/a> to safety for leisure users as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SOLAS covers lifesaving equipment, emergency procedures, fire safety, navigation, and rescue operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">But&#8230;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These rules will only apply to RIBs if&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>it is a passenger ship carrying more than 12 passengers on an international voyage; or<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>it is a RIB carried aboard a SOLAS ship and designated as a Fast Rescue Boat (FRB). In that case, the RIB would need to comply with the International Life-Saving Appliance Code (LSA Code) and associated SOLAS requirements for rescue craft.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The List of the Requirements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Approved Design<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Must be approved by the vessel&#8217;s Flag Administration or a recognized classification society.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Must comply with SOLAS Chapter III and the IMO LSA Code.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Construction<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Rigid hull with inflatable buoyancy tubes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Materials must be resistant to corrosion, UV exposure, fuel, oil, and marine environmental conditions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sufficient strength for repeated launching and recovery operations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Capacity<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Must accommodate the number of persons specified in the approval certificate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Seating arrangements must safely secure all occupants.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Stability and Buoyancy<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Must remain afloat and stable when fully loaded.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Adequate reserve buoyancy even if one or more buoyancy chambers are damaged.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Engine Performance<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Reliable propulsion system suitable for rescue operations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fast Rescue Craft (FRC) versions must achieve speeds required by the LSA Code (typically at least <strong>20 knots<\/strong> in calm water with crew and equipment).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Manoeuvrability<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Capable of safe operation in adverse weather and sea conditions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Able to recover persons from the water effectively.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Launching and Recovery<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Compatible with an approved SOLAS launching appliance (davits or other approved systems).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Capable of being launched and recovered safely with the assigned crew.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Safety Equipment<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Searchlight.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Radar reflector (if required).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>VHF radiocommunication equipment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>First-aid kit.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rescue quoit and line.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Boat hook.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Towline.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Compass.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pyrotechnic distress signals (where required).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thermal protective aids and other equipment specified by the LSA Code.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Markings<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Clearly marked with:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Vessel name and\/or identification number.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Capacity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Approval information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Operational limitations where applicable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Maintenance and Inspection<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Subject to regular inspections, servicing, and operational testing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inflatable tubes must undergo periodic pressure checks and maintenance according to manufacturer and SOLAS requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Crew Requirements<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Must be operated by personnel trained and certified in rescue boat or fast rescue craft operations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Regular drills required under SOLAS Chapter III.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Certification<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Valid approval certificate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Included in the vessel&#8217;s
