Highfield’s Swedish New Distributor Ironbrothers

The newly appointed Swedish new distributor Ironbrothers had a very successful Båtmässan Gothenburg Boat Show from 4 to 12 February 2023.

Lars Peterson, Ironbrothers’ CEO, reports: “What a busy show, good sales and plenty of new leads. It’s great to be representing Highfield Boats!”

HIghfields are made from aluminum.

Aluminum recycling enables scrap metal to be put back into circulation and used in new products, rather than being thrown away after its initial production.

This process of reusing aluminium is beneficial for both the environment and the economy.

Recycling scrap aluminium requires only 5% of the energy used to make new aluminium.

Aluminium is unique in its capacity for infinite recycling without experiencing any decline in quality, making it one of the few materials with this incredible capability.

Proud to share that Highfield is a good Friend of RIBs ONLY.

SuperRib 30 Carbon Open 62 Knots Awesome Testing

The SuperRib 30 in Action

A day of prop testing on a Croatian built SuperRib 30 carbon open. The RIB is built using a vacuum infused carbon hull. With twin 450R Mercury outboards they reached 62 knots. Look at that digital speed gauge going…

The hull was created by the well-known Croatian naval architect Srđan Đaković, who has super yachts, sail and traditional boats in his portfolio.

I’ve published earlier here a video of the cabin GRP version of this model and also its litle sister.

With an HD racing carbon hull, they can mount up to 900 hp in a twin-engine configuration, allowing the Rigid Inflatable Boat to reach speeds above 65 knots.

Why an Electric Outboard Is Not the Better Choice Now

Kilowatt hour gauge @ RIBs ONLY - Home of the Rigid Inflatable Boat
The battle for the kilowatts

Introduction

Electric outboard engines have been around for a few years now, but they are still not a great choice for Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) owners at the moment if you are looking for a high-power outboard.

Just to make sure, I’m all for technical innovations and all the people that make it happen. They have without any doubt my admiration and respect.

Electric Outboard Considered

These are often advertised as being more efficient and quieter than traditional gas engines, but there are still some major drawbacks to using them.

Although these kind of outboards are becoming somewhat more popular, at this moment, they are not the better choice for a number of reasons.

Here are a few reasons why high-power electric outboard engines are not a good choice at this moment:

Hydrogen and Electricity Basic Pros and Cons

Hydrogen versus electricity @ RIBs ONLY - Home of the Rigid Inflatable Boat
Hydrogen versus electricity

Introduction

The last years electric engines on RIBs and other boats are slowly emerging but what with the hydrogen as fuel? I did some research on the subject and incorporated it into this high-level article.

Hydrogen and electricity have a long history as energy sources, but both have also been gaining increased attention in recent years. Both are seen as potential alternatives to fossil fuels, but their relative advantages and disadvantages need to be considered.
